My Story

I didn’t come to gardening through aesthetics or trends — I came to it through science.

I spent years studying environmental systems and teaching science, learning and sharing how deeply connected soil, food, and human health really are. Sustainability wasn’t a buzzword to me; it was something measurable, practical, and necessary. But for a long time, sustainability also felt…inaccessible. It was framed as something you needed land, time, money, or perfection to participate in. A Master's degree in Environmental Toxicology brought me theory, but no practice.

Then I moved to a place without a yard.

Suddenly, all the advice I’d learned — and taught — no longer applied in the way it was written. I had sunlight, curiosity, and a desire to live my values, but no traditional garden space. What I did have was scientific understanding, a willingness to experiment, and the realization that sustainability shouldn’t be an all-or-nothing lifestyle.

That’s where Small Space Harvest began.

I started growing food in containers, on balconies, inside, and in corners most people would overlook — and it worked. Not because I did everything “right,” but because I focused on systems that made sense: living soil, resilient plants, and small, repeatable actions. I realized that being part of the sustainability movement didn’t have to be hard, expensive, or dependent on having land. It just had to be realistic.

Today, I teach others how to grow real food where they are — in small spaces, busy lives, and imperfect conditions. My approach blends science-backed principles with gentleness and practicality, so growing food feels grounding instead of overwhelming.

You don’t need a yard to participate in sustainability.
You don’t need perfection to make an impact.
You just need a place to start. And I’m glad you’re here.
